On the patio

Our patio has become a paradise.
And through all the hummer commotion,
our dogs sleep and I work.

Spring has returned.
The Earth
is like a child
that knows poems.

Nice hummers. I don't try for them but have a friend who does and loves 'em. 4 honey to one water? 4 water to one honey? 2 to 2?

That's why I stick to cardinals and such.

My boyfriend's mom is a huge hummingbird fan and tracks their yearly migration. I think I'll link her this post.

Thanks Sam for sending this link on. I'd love it if she knows which hummingbird this is. A costa's? an Anna's? a black chinned? they are all too similar for us to tell!

Banjomyn, right now our guys love the natural stuff. But I have one of the 'flying saucer' style feeders and we do 4 waters 1 sugar, no honey. Seems to work here - we boil water and sugar in microwave and then store in frig, adding as they drink (sometimes, every day).

It's funny when I have folks from Europe on a Huntington tour. They go over the moon when they spot a hummingbird. You can always tell the natives; we start squawking when we see the geese. I guess the geese take a short vacation here on their way to Washington or Canada.

Our Aunty lives on a retired farm and gets about 20 hummers every afternoon about 4 pm. They are total conversation stoppers and drink up the Hummer juice fast!
