Along the hot hot river

Shado rode along side me as I drove the river's banks this morning.

The air is hot, and the water is very inviting.

Stealthily we sat and watched a fisherman.

And we watched the blue heron who didn't want the fisherman near...

Nature provided all that we could dream.

Loved that blue heron!
Why do you strap your dog's nose?
Won't he have a hard time panting to cool himself down with that on?
Just curious?

Oh, sigh and envy on the bird shot. This all begs the question -- can you dive into that river? As I'm digging up a parched patch in the backyard today, looks so inviting.

Hi Retired One! Thanks for your comments - anyone who wants to see some AWESOME bird shots, go to Retired Ones blog, including this post:

I aspire to your photo taking talents!

Anyway, the 'strap' on Shado's nose is a 'gentle leader'. It keeps him from tugging, as he tends to do. But he can BREATHE, BARK, PANT, DRINK WATER, EAT - whatever, with it on. I only put it on him when I walk him. He is very very used to it, and he sees it as a road to excitement! When the gentle leader comes out, he knows adventures are ahead!

AH, no diving here. Further along the river there is tubing and drowning... unfortunately the drownings are all to frequent. The currents are pretty rough (depending on the time of year). There are 6 lakes along the river (lakes created by dams), hence lots of boating and some swimming in those waters.

That heron and reflection are magical. I have heard from my friend who lives in Rio Verde that the heat is nearly unbearable in AZ. I just (luckily) missed it!

One of the best place to be when it is hot, and it is hot!
Shado must have enjoyed the ride!

That's a lot of water and greenery for the desert; it's going to be a beautiful summer. The heron pictures are amazing. My favorite image is the last one, it's hard to stop looking at it. :)

What a beautiful place. Mom said she would help that fisherman with her camera.. he he
MeMaw says the corn is taller than the pups now since they have had rain. Guess we will have to have something scented to lure the deaf ones out if we go back when the corn is tall..

Excellent capture of heron posing and flapping. All in all, this might be my favorite batch of your photos, especially that last landscape. The all make Arizona look so much greener and more fertile than I envision it without your help.

Wish I’d had the sense to do the leader with dogs when I had them. Good idea.
