Not I?

Who will love a little Sparrow?
Who's traveled far and cries for rest?

"Not I," said the Oak Tree,
"I won't share my branches with
no sparrow's nest,
And my blanket of leaves won't warm
her cold breast."

"Not I," said the Swan,
"The entire idea is utterly absurd,
I'd be laughed at and scorned if the
other Swans heard."

"Not I," said the Golden Wheat,
"I would if I could but I cannot I know,
I need all my grain to prosper and grow."

Who will love a little Sparrow
And who will speak a kindly word?

The shootings in Tucson have left many of us stunned.
Saddened.
Wondering.

Who has a kind word?
I do wonder about the noise I hear.

Is it so hard to be...

(song words are from Simon & Garfunkel's
Please listen and enjoy)

Beautiful sentiments for a very sad time. I am so angry, frustrated, and irritated now by these stupid outside hate groups protesting the funerals. And they claim they are Christians? I don't like all this national attention because for me, it's a very personal thing. I've voted for Congresswoman Giffords every single time because she is an amazing lady who has done an incredible job for us here. And I am so saddened for the families and friends who lost their loved ones. I would love to say kind words, but right now, I think we're all in grieving mode. Why can't people just exist in harmony? Great post to express what's happening. Hope everything is going well in your neck of the woods:)

This time of terrible loss and tragedy should encourage a coming together, but it seems there are so many "agendas" and way too much "noise."

I've time the media out, since the Tuscon shooting. No newspapers, no TV, no radio. I can't deal and prefer to hide my head in the sand,. I say that with no shame.

Now on the subject of sparrows, particularly house sparrows; kudos to the oak and the swan and the wheat for turning the sparrow away. the sparrow has been displacing North American songbirds since the mid to late 1800's

A very fitting, somber as well as sad tone for the occasion. Thanks for reminding me how much I often like S & G, especially the guitar work of Paul Simon. Some urgency and anger in their song as well as passive sadness. That all makes sense, unlike the original deed and doer.

your photos are lovely, especailly the swan speaks to me. if only our human selves could be like the sparrow and the animal world that only kills for food and never for hate. my heart breaks for all the ones whose lives were touched by this tradgey. even the one who did it hurts my heart. our world is sad and weary and in bad need of love for one another.
