The dinner conversation

I asked: “So, we don’t know where he’s at, right?”

E.  glared at me.  “We don’t end sentences in prepositions, okay?”

“I didn’t. I said “We don’t know where he’s at, right?” I ended with ‘right’.”

“Well, that is just like the Harvard joke,” he said.

Huh? “What’s the Harvard joke?”

“You haven’t heard? The freshman goes to Harvard. He’s walking across campus and stops to ask a senior “where is the library at?”

“The senior says “Here at HARVARD, we don’t end sentences with prepositions. Rephrase your question!”

The freshman does. “OK, where is the library at, asshole.”

So it is.
Right?

Such a meaningful conversation. I actually laughed out loud. What room do you eat dinner in?

E here.

I have to say, my original comment was a friendly 'dig' at Brenda. She always chastizes me over that so-called 'rule' about ending with prepositions, which is why I called her on it. I maintain that it's not even a rule. I will also continue to boldly split infinitives!

I say, if man can split an atom, he can split an infinitive. (But you snapped at Brenda -- what for?)

Love it. Who says freshmen aren't as smart as seniors?
