Changing of the guard - er, birds.

Seasons change, and so do the birds at our feeder.

This guy needs a lesson on his manners.
DON'T eat the tube that feeds ya!

The birds are molting. They actually look furry!

And what appears to be our first goldfinch.
They 'winter' here, so I wonder what this guy is doing here so early. Maybe the economy affects their travel choices, too?

Great pics. Our birds molted here about a month ago. They looked they had been through a hurricane!

Hi - Just came over from Stella's blog. Great to meet Shado (and Bren). The joint post was great.
So who is being well behaved today?
Toodle pip!
Bertie (the 'little punk')

PS Gail says: What pretty bird photos. I see goldfinches on the bird feeder in my garden in Aberdeen, Scotland. They must tolerate quite a range of climates!

Molting--yes, "my" male cardinal myst get the shakes when he sees his new, temporary hair-do in the mirror.

And, if I trusted my memory, I'd say the male gold finches here have gone to their winter olive-dun earlier than usual.

My Inner Nerd speaks: why does anyone choose sky-diving or casinos when there's so much interesting stuff in the yard?

We must have a new crop as well. Lots of birdsongs, at not just in early morning. I really like that cocky fellow in the middle two photos.

We always have a lot of birds here, but I'm noticing the outsiders around lately. We don't have anything as colorful as a goldfinch though. Scrub jays and hummingbirds are about as colorful as ours get.
