The fact that a hawk would (I assume) eat these guys says something unflattering about hawks. Gold finches are tied with cardinals for my favorite back yard bird. I'm sure they feel duly honored.
(I was surprised at how easy it was to lure them there--thistle or nyjer seed apparently will do it).

Barb, I don't think he was cold. Just fluffing in the sun.
Beautiful photo of such a delicate and summery bird! We rarely see them, even in summer!
