Some evenings...

(photo from the Wikimedia Commons)
My husband has a crush on Myrna Loy,
and likes to rent her movies, for a treat.
It makes some evenings harder to enjoy.
A few Saturdays ago, on a hot hot weekend, E. and I watched "The Awful Truth". It is NOT a Myrna Loy movie, but it started our downfall. Thanks to Altadena Hiker's post Weekend Mantinee: the Awful Truth , our movie choices are now in The Thin Man series. Why? Because E. has a crush on Myrna Loy...
Does he confess all this just to annoy
a loyal spouse? I know I can’t compete.
My husband has a crush on Myrna Loy.
I, too, enjoyed The Thin Man. Myrna Loy had terrific comedic timing. Her face expressions are giggle-triggering, and her tolerance of her husband's crazy ways are a lesson to be learned.
But Myrna Loy? After all these years...  she makes some evenings harder to enjoy.

Too funny...my x had/has a crush on Valerie Bertinelli. fortunately she hasn't made too many movies, but back in the day I watched waaaaaaay too much "One Day At A Time"

I loved the "thin man" movies, but my favorite was always Asta...

BRING IT ON!

I love the Thin Man series -- even the last couple of episodes which really aren't very good, but I don't care. WP was no slouch in the timing department, either. (If your husband is behaving, then for a treat, rent Mr. Blandings Builds His Dreamhouse and/or Test Pilot.)

And tell him, if I were a man, I'd have a crush on Myrna Loy, too.

Karin, re: Test Pilot suggestion. I passed it on to E. He writes this back:
Oh joy
it has myrna loy
I am a boy
can I be her toy?
myrna loy

Oh dear. It is gonna be a long hot 'Myrna Loy' summer, isn't it?

Stumpy, E loves Valerie Bertinelli, too. The house goes completely silent every time one of her commercials is on. Sigh...

Oh E, we should send Brenda on a hike (tell her there's a bald eagle out there) and watch this one together. Just you, me, martinis and popcorn.

Valerie B, I get. Don't know if I'll ever catch up on Myrna.

Mary Jo Salter's husband is Brad Leithauser, poet and novelist. Maybe I'm not intellectual enough for Myrna and anything else that old? (Not her, but the stylized movie making).

O how she picks on me! I only wrote that 'poem' (and I use the term loosely) in response to the one in the blog. (makes ML 'scrunchy face' at B)

Celebrity crushes have the benefit of timelessness-ML will always be 30, when in reality she was born 20 years before my mother.

We have Mr Blandings, but I'm not sure I ever saw Test Pilot-it sounds familiar, though. And Brenda, don't forget "The Best Years of Our Lives".

The Thin Man is great for the banter. You can see the roots of McMillan and Wife or even Moonlighting in there.

Myrna Loy, Thin Man, do I need to rent these old movies? All I can say is Gregory Peck, To Kill A Mocking Bird, be still my heart!Last summer DH and I Net Flexed all Alfred Hitchcock movies, lots of fun!

Oh - let him have his fantasies, Brenda... It could be worse. Actually - he writes a nice poem.

this post makes me feel blessed, my hubby and i like the same type movies (he does not watch chick flicks)and we both love action and good stories. I used to watch the thin man on TV many years ago, have not seen one since then.

Things could be much worse. You could be married to Banjo and then you'd have to listen to him whine every time you tried to watch a classic flick.
