My mother sent photos of the night blooming cactus in her front yard.
She has a spectacular bouquet!
I'm rethinking my Latin (haha)
and maybe these are Cereus hildmannianus.
Or maybe Peniocereus greggii ??

Thank your mom for sharing - really beautiful. Your Latin is so much better than mine, probably more than 99% of population.
I think you are right - it's Cereus hildmannianus (http://www.tucson-gardener.com/graphics/Galleries/Flowers/Flowers.html)
thanks for the comment on PVDP. We do get more clear days than you'd think - mostly in the winter thru early spring, some days in the fall with Santa Ana winds (the ones that bring on the fires)...etc. I realized after I started blogging that it's clear more often than I thought in the LA basin.
What beautiful cactus flowers--amazing that something so prickly can produce such lovely offsping.
I think we're both right. Altho the sprawling, perfumed version was the one I was referring to, apparently several others share the name.

I'm glad the discussion prompted more lovely pictures.
Wow, a scented bloom? I haven't run across this kind. I think a trip to Jamaica/Cayman Islands is called for! Thanks for more and the anticipation of finding the vanilla scented bloom.
