All in an afternoon.

There is one who sleeps away the afternoon.

There is one who enjoys the outdoors,
whether sunning or guarding the property.

There is one who spends the day watching the television.
The cooking shows are the best ones.
And college football...

And there is one who plays, plays, plays.
Please, throw the ball just ONE MORE TIME!
Please??

(photo from Red Fox http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fuchs_Profil.jpg )
And then there is the red fox.
Yesterday we found him with his head caught in the chain link fence. Obviously he was trying to sneak through, perhaps seeking prey or solitude.
He appeared to be impaled on the fence, but he was just stuck.
I fetched E. He brought the tools, the gloves, the idea.
After a bit of 'enbiggening' and cutting a link, he grabbed the fox and pulled it loose.
The creature ran for shrubs and sat. He watched us fix the fence.
He gathered his wits, and we calmed our hearts.

And the rest of the day was joy.

Wow! We had a bobcat trapped in our chicken coop one morning, and we've seen plenty of grey foxes, but I've never seen a red fox here. How exciting.

what a wonderful, wonderful story, i am sitting here with a smile and a happy heart that you saved the fox. the dogs are all 4 beyond the word precious whatever that might be.
we have one who sleeps 20 out of 24 hours and the other one plays and plays and guards and is hubby's tag along side kick. bob moves, jake moves and pouts when he leaves the house. great post
4 years ago, traveling my 45 minutes to work, 7 minutes from home, in a neighborhood not to my liking, I saw the dog i had considered stealing from the day they got it. they had chained him inside the chainlink fence and he had tried to climb over and was hanging by his neck with the chain tangles, standing on tip toes to keep from choking.
i called hubby and said i will be late if it stop, the dog i love is hanging himself, will you come. he said go on to work I will be right there. it was still dark and the area is full of drugs and gangs. all the way to work i beat myself up saying what if they people kill my husband, what it the dog rips his throat out
as soon as i got to work i called home and hubby said I got him free, he did not bite me, no one attacked me. relief for the dog and hubby.

Wow, Sandra, what a story! I was afraid what your ending was going to be...

Sam - a bobcat? No thanks!

Shado (the dog who plays ball all day) was with me when I spotted the fox. Shado and I ran to the house to grab E. I know that the fox was exhausted, dehydrated and frightened... and my heart was pounding the whole extrication process. E and I both wondered where the fox is today.

Thank goodness you were able to help the fox AND it wan't rabid!

Love the dogs! I'd want to cuddle with the first couch potatoe!

I'm glad you were home or the fox would have perished. They are so smart - I doubt he'll try that method of entry again. We've actually seen a fox try to lure an old dog to play. The dog would chase the fox a short distance and when it would turn to go home, the fox would follow close behind to taunt it into chasing again.

I love to watch a sleeping cat or dog (or even me) on a rainy cold day. They are just so safe and cozy.

What a great tale you had for us today. It's not often we hear of such things in the city! Loved your doggie descriptions and photos of each.

The dog pics make a nice set-up for the fox story--it could stand alone, but the pooches add a nice contrast. I'm glad you two could free him.

Such diverse personalities in the dogs. I'm glad you were able to free the fox. What a predicament he got himself into. I just saw a red fox today trotting down our road. We have several that live in our neighborhood.
